Coolies: The First Festival de Cannes

Raajeev Auchambit

À l’heure du tout à l’image et du buzz sans suite, «l’express» souhaite faire découvrir la plume de poètes, de chanteurs, d’écrivains et de tous ceux qui jettent leur âme sur le papier, et qui mettent en mots des réflexions profondes.

Leaving the suit for the bourgeois to build another home

A dhoti was all they needed, with sindoor to roam.

On this green carpet, they made their mark, In fields of cane from dawn till dark.

They took the stage,

ourgeois as paparazzi, every move in a cage.

Cutting the cane with pride,

Dancing in the fields where their dreams collide,

They sang and laughed with spirits wide,

Fighting without any place to hide.

Ditched the red carpet glam,

Unlike the grand Madame.

Labour side by side, they refused gloom

Swinging their blades with a space to bloom.

Under watchful eyes, they found their cheer,

In their ironic festival, fun was near.

Bourgeois watched them like pigeons, snapping every step, while coolies turned into a joyful prep.

Living and surviving together,

Even in chains, they did not care about the weather.

Cool coolies, Cool coolies

You were the true stars,

In your festival, you raised the bar.

With the first ever Festival de Cannes, you stole the show,

And were very beaux. plumes.jpg
