The Alliance Lepep – the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM) - Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD) and Muvman Liberater (ML) bloc –   has pledged to raise the basic retirement pension if it ever wins office. The promise has been dismissed as unrealistic by the Labour- Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) coalition and slammed by many political observers as demagogical and dangerous for the country.. After the Ebola outbreak in western Africa, an autochthon case was recorded in Spain a few weeks ago. Another case happened in the United States. A Liberian who was tested positive to the virus succumbed to the disease, infecting one of the nurses in charge in the US. Experts from Oxford University are now pointing towards a spread downwards, in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean. Is there a looming threat for Mauritius?
