Après un éditorial: Touria Prayag interdite d’accès au Parlement
Elle avait prévenu qu’elle agirait en conséquence si la rédactrice en chef de Weekly, Touria Prayag, ne s’excusait pas. Et la Speaker, Maya Hanoomanjee, a décidé de lui interdire l’accès au Parlement. Cela, pour les quatre prochaines séances.
Une décision prise le mardi 14 juin. A l’origine de cette affaire : un éditorial de Touria Prayag, paru le 28 avril et intitulé Catch me if you can. Maya Hanoomanjee avait estimé qu’il s’agissait d’un «breach of privilege of the House».
Maya Hanoomanjee avait fait valoir que l’éditorial attaquait l’Assemblée nationale. Et accusait la Speaker de partialité. Pour soutenir ses propos, elle avait cité plusieurs extraits, dont celui-ci: «Our NationalAssembly has become grotesque in its intolerance of accountability on almost all issues.And the Speaker seems to be unwittingly helping in the muzzling of MPs every time ministers find themselves in a tight spot over key issues.»
