À l’annonce du décès du pape François, le président de la République, Dharam Gokhool a exprimé, au nom du peuple mauricien, une profonde tristesse et un respect solennel envers celui qui fut un guide spirituel mondial. Dans son hommage, il a salué l’engagement du souverain pontife en faveur du dialogue interreligieux, de la justice sociale et de la dignité humaine, tout en invitant chaque citoyen à méditer sur son ultime appel à la paix et à l’unité entre les peuples. «It is with deep sorrow that I have learned of the demise of His Holiness the Pope Francis, leader of the Roman Catholic Church.On behalf of the people of the Republic of Mauritius, and in my own personal capacity, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Holy See, the global Catholic community, and to all those who drew strength and inspiration from the spiritual leadership of His Holiness.His Holiness Pope Francis was a beacon of spiritual light, moral authority, compassion, and peace — a shepherd to millions.Above all, his tireless voice in favour of interfaith dialogue, social justice, and the dignity of all human beings echoed far beyond the walls of the Vatican. In honoring his rich journey and legacy, we must remember that true leadership comes from selfless dedication to reducing human sufferings, sharing love, showing empathy and nurturing unity - noble values that should inspire all of us to live together in harmony and peace. At this moment of global mourning, Mauritius stands united with all those who honour the lifelong dedication of His Holiness the Pope.
