My Prayers

Anitah Aujayeb.
À l’heure du tout à l’image et du buzz sans suite, «l’express» souhaite faire découvrir la plume de poètes, de chanteurs, d’écrivains et de tous ceux qui jettent leur âme sur le papier, et qui mettent en mots des réflexions profondes.
I have prayed in my life
to trees, flowers and plants
for the little to the littlest want
I have asked in my life
to the sun, the moon and the stars
for gifts, cakes, dolls and cars.
I listened to prayers in my life
every night, every hour,
every morn
since in a priest’s family
was I born.
I was taught in my life
to join hands, palms and fingers
in front of so many images
I have adored in my life
rivers, oceans, earth and fountains
for the world they maintain.
I woke up in my life
to specially pray on exam day
for obstacles not to come my way.
I endured in my life,
the pangs of thirst and hunger
as I fasted with full fervour
I was advised in my life
not to doubt the power of prayers,
the penances of yester years.
But I did not learn in my life
to pray for inner peace
to pray for the soul’s release
not to ask for wealthy powers
not to plead for favours
I do now accept in my life
that we are graciously served
not what we want,
only what we do deserve
I do believe now in my life
that God always wants to give,
but some, we are not worthy
to receive
I do now pray in my life
not to be wealthy
not to look pretty
not, to be thin, not fat
not to come first in the race of rats
but to be loved by HIM
not to ask for every little thing
