A storm rolls in, dancing on raging winds, unraveling something deep within me.

I knew it was coming

Still took me by surprise

The sky thickened, the air grew heavy, and then, at last, the winds surged, rain slashing the earth in silver knives.

The damp saltiness clings to the air, thick, electric, alive.

One, two, three— lightning splits the sky, loud zigzags tearing the dark, strobes of fire illuminating the unseen.

Inside me, the numb humming swells, a quiet suffocation uncoiling in my belly.

The hollow drumming in my ears grows louder, a relentless tide rising, calling, whispering of something new— something waiting to be born.
