Local science centre to awaken the Einstein in our children

Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and the United States share a particularity. Children in these countries are very science minded at a very young age, Singapore, Japan and South Korea being far ahead in the lot.
Since these findings, parents, teachers and governments have been asking themselves one question. What might be the best activities and resources to spark a child’s interest and teach him about science? It is absolutely not the classroom, the chalk, the talk and the blackboard.

The Einstein sleeping in children is awaken when they live in a science-friendly home, encouraged to ask questions, think critically, experiment, explain their reasoning, read, write, create models, and watch science programs on TV.
A situation that most Mauritian parents find hard to achieve. So the Rajiv Gandhi Science centre is taking the challenge and intends to go round the island to promote science among children through experiments, scientific apparatus, gadgets etc. etc.

Dayachand Balgobin, presently officer in charge at the Rajiv Gandhi Science centre says that the science week organised by the centre in the past have been beefed up with the aim of awakening the drive of youngsters to experiment and to ask questions.

The centre will not wait for students, teachers or youngsters accompanied by parents to visit the centre during the science week.

Instead, it will move all its paraphernalia from towns to village to offer a proximity service to the community.
