Diwali the Festival of Light

Krishnanand Guptar.

À l’heure du tout à l’image et du buzz sans suite, «l’express» souhaite faire découvrir la plume de poètes, de chanteurs, d’écrivains et de tous ceux qui jettent leur âme sur le papier, et qui mettent en mots des réflexions profondes.

Let us Diwali celebrate,

Let’s greet the festival of light

That trails the path of autumn late

Conveys to worshippers delight

Disperses the gloom of darkness

Ushers in life rays of brightness

Marks triumph of good on evil,

Of knowledge over ignorance,

Wards off foul stinks of the devil

And burns the wicks of arrogance.

Time ahead of the festival

As we clean our homes and surrounds

To welcome divine arrival,

Let our soul with true love abound,

Our heart flower with compassion

And our mind bloom with caring thoughts

For folks in dire needs this season;

Let`s drive bane of hatred to nought

And free ill-feelings from our breast

That all the year round we are blessed.

As we prepare diyas to light

Let`s sign new chapters in our life,

Chapters that will be ever bright

In spring of joy and times of strife,

Chapters scribbled with ink of truth

Illumed by faith in the divine

That`ll steer our way to peace, in sooth,

And pervade our life with sunshine.

As we flick on the strings of lights

Let us kindle our inner self

Dispel dark despair of the night

Ignite hope and trust in ourselves

Share savours of sweet happiness

Strengthen bonds of relationship

Uphold the flag of righteousness

And cement our ties of friendship.

As lights flicker on streets and homes,

With hearts warm with love, let’s embrace

Unity as the epitome,

Irrespective of creed or race,

Offer gratitude to the Lord

For showering on us His grace

And sail all together on board

Hurdles and challenges to face,

Pray for prosperity for all

And reap fruits of growth as a whole
